In conjunction with the NHL, AHL and other hockey leagues around the world who wish to speed up and improve the skill quotient of the game, SPRHL commissioner Tom Horan has approved the following rule changes and clarifications to improve the safety and competition of the SPRHL's various divisions.

The officials have been trained to look for (4) different criteria in order for a penalty to be called and if it didn't fit in those criteria the situation was not going to be called a penalty. For your information, the referees look for the following criteria:

• Change of possession scenario
• Loss of scoring opportunity
• Blatant and obvious
• Injury potential

These are the guidelines that our officials follow. There are obviously many other variables that come into play. The officials will be enforcing zero tolerance on all OBSTRUCTION and HOOKING type infractions.
